I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle 1/2 Marathon yesterday…and I made it out alive!
Despite having a sinus infection and only being able to breathe through one nostril, I did pretty well. I managed to run the first 10 miles without stopping and then nature called twice after that point. It was a little difficult getting back into my groove after the potty breaks, especially with two not-so-friendly hills awaiting me. And once I saw Qwest Field (finish line) in the distance, I regained my momentum, only to get frustrated as the route took us away from Qwest and through a huge loop around it before actually arriving at the finish line. The frustration doubled as extra momentum because I was nearly sprinting that last 1/2 mile
.
My finishing time was 2:18:38 — the longest 2 hours of my life, but amazing at the same time. I’m hurting physically (in places I didn’t know could hurt!), but absolutely elated mentally. I’m actually considering running another 1/2 marathon in the near future!*
*There’s a good chance the post-race endorphins that have taken over my body are making promises without my consent
